Honesty and trustworthiness go hand in hand. By being honest, you earn trustworthiness. Many elementary age students define honesty as naturally "telling the truth" and think only verbal "lies" and being dishonest. Discussions about honest with students should be help them understand that many other actions such as cheating or stealing are also dishonest.

Discussion

Ask the students to give an example of a time person was honest with them. Ask them to do the same for a time person was not honest with them. Which would they prefer to be known as, person who is honest or person who is not?

Dependability

Dependability is a trait that many students may not think about, but it is an important character trait to teach at a young age.
